THE YEARS BEFORE HOLLYWOOD

Right before I moved to Southern California around 1987. I had been home with my parents after college at NMSU in Las Cruces; I was working at the Santa Fe Ski Basin at the time. It was so cold and I lost my voice. I took a break to visit Big Bear & Manhattan Beach. That's when I decided to move to California, leaving my guitar behind with my parents. (Since I lost my voice I gave up singing and playing for a while).
		  
I lived in Palm Desert for a few years just experiencing what it felt like to live in California. I didn't feel like this was the place for me so I moved to Newport & Laguna Beach and took a job working for the great cartoonist, Chuck Jones, doing art production work. This started my animation art career (which I am still involved in).

I decided that it was time to get my guitar back. When I was visiting my family in Santa Fe and my primo and brother were playing some songs for me, I felt happy and envious how much they had advanced. I remember in earlier years I was teaching them the basic chords. So I took my old guitar back with me to California. I mainly played old songs from the past when I felt I needed a music fix or when I was feeling nostalgic.

I traveled often to Europe with my girlfriends as much as I could and I realized how the music was so different there than in the States. Even though I was only 23, I felt like I was trapped in the 60s/70s style of music. Friends were listening to Madonna and U2. So I kept my guitar and singing for special friends who would request for me to play, or I would play for myself.
